What makes us different from other web design agencies?

WordPress et al

You may have heard of do-it-yourself websites like WordPress, Wix, SquareSpace and all. These can be very good if you have the patience to learn them. They also need to be "hosted" which is a faff - you design the website, then you have to pay a monthly fee to have it running on a computer somewhere.

This as well as sorting out a domain name (www.lilacpixel.com, for example) and setting up the email settings on your "devices" (PC, laptop, phone, tablet, watch, next-wizzy-thing). There is usually a database to set up as well, even for a simple one-page site.

We have used WordPress, for example, in the past - and in our experience it is slow, unweildy and prone to malicious attacks by hackers. It also changes a lot, so you have to get used to new features, or features that disappear. As a cusomer of Lilac Pixel, you just ask for what you want, and we sill deliver it.

We code it ourselves

At Lilac Pixel, we design your website from scratch, using handwritten code. We host it on lightening fast web servers at minimal cost to you. We set up your domain name and email for you (in your house or at ours with a laptop).

Ownership

One of the features that is important to us is that you own your domain name and email address. That means that you can take your website to any other web design agency with no input from us at all. No handover faff required.

Flexible

As we design your website from the bottom up - it is easy for us to make any changes that you require. There a many, many website features that can be integrated into your site (database, contact us, image hosting etc) that are free (and open source) for us to use - these can be better than paid-for "plugins" to WordPress et al.

This means we can be very flexible in designing the website that you want, rather than choosing a theme from a list - any colour scheme, layout, font, structure etc is yours to demand.

We like to think we are very reasonably priced as well (see Price) - there are other web design agencies who are cheaper, but then you get lumbered with WordPress ... :)
